| HALDI. The
great deity of the people of Ararat in the city of Muzagir. His
shrine was plundered and his statue taken into Assyria by Sargon II., who
thought thus the more effectually to break the power of the Armenian
confederation. On the king of Assyria attacking the town, Urzana the
king, with all his treasures, fled to the mountains, leaving the city an
open prey. Himself escaped, but his wife, family, and the temple
treasures fell into the hands of Sargon. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
