... the good seed had taken root in several minds.  Among others a son of the leader of the mob, named Hampartsoom,—"Ascension,"—had become enlightened.  Though married, this young man, with his brothers, was, according to oriental custom, subject to his father, with whom he lived.  His father at length said to him, "You must cease talking with Sarkis and reading the Protestant books, or leave my house."  The young man replied, "I can not do as you require, and so I, your dear son, whom till now you have loved and cherished, and who has cheerfully obeyed all your commands, must now, with my wife and children, go out and serve others."  Then, taking his wife by the hand, he said, "Let us go;" but the father's heart relented, and they were permitted to remain.  The father soon after died, and an elder brother, also an opposer of the truth, became head of the family.  Soon after, this brother also died, and Hampartsoom, being head of the family and free to do as he chose, held meetings at his house for all who wished to hear the Bible read...
