| HANUN. Hanun
I., a king of Gaza, who paid tribute to Tiglath Pileser I. Hanun
II., a king of Gaza. He attempted to defy Tiglath Pileser II.,
who defeated and drove him into Egypt, occupying and plundering the
country; after which Hanun, unable to obtain assistance from Pharaoh,
submitted and paid tribute to the Assyrians. Hanun III., a
king of Gaza. He combined with Sibahe, king of Egypt, to resist the
demands of Sargon II., king of Assyria, who met him at Raphia, on the
borders of Palestine and Egypt, and utterly defeated him, carrying him a
