| HAPIMOU. The
god of the Nile. He was generally represented as a very corpulent
man, holding an altar with wild birds, and with his head crowned with
lotus flowers and papyri. He was sometimes painted red, to represent
the water of the Nile when muddy at the time of the annual inundations, or
green, the usual shade of the water at the other seasons of the year. (An Archaic
Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
