Merivale, (Herman,) an
English writer, a brother of the preceding, was born about 1805.
He became professor of political economy at Oxford about 1837.
Among his works are "Lectures on Colonization and the
Colonies," (2 vols., 1841.) He completed the "Memoirs of
the Life of Sir Philip Francis," which had been commenced by Joseph
Parkes. Died in 1874. (Universal Pronouncing Dictionary of
