HODUR. A
variant form of Old Norse Hödhr
(q.v.), meaning "fierce warrior," from Teutonic headho (attack,
fight).
Hodur... In mythology, this is the name of
Baldur's brother and murderer. He was blind and of amazing strength,
and is said to typify unheeding rashness and violence... (History of
Christian Names, Yonge, 1884)
Hödur. (Scand.
Myth.) A blind god who destroyed his brother Baldur, at the
instigation of Loki, without meaning to do so. He typifies
night and darkness, as Baldur does light and day. [Written also Höd,
Höder.] (An Explanatory and Pronouncing Dictionary of the Noted
Names of Fiction, Wheeler, 1898)
