HRUODGEIR.  "Famous spear."  From Teutonic hruod "fame, praise" and Old Norse geirr "spear."  See Old Norse Hróðgeirr, and old German Hruodgar.  The Norman Roger de Montgomery's name came straight from this one, as did the Italian forms Ruggero and Ruggiero. (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).
