(English-International Dictionary, Beaufront-Couturat, 1908).  It may be from Spanish influence.  Its variants are Irao, and Hirao.  Spanish I'ra = "passion, rage."  Huracan = "hurricane." (A Dictionary of the Spanish and English Languages, de la Cadena, 1883).
