Origin of the name IO.
Etymology of the name IO.
Meaning of the baby name IO.

IO (Ιώ).  Greek name meaning "the moon."

... Io, the daughter of Inachus, was changed by Hera into a cow... Io was priestess of Hera, and is represented as the cow-goddess Hera... The Pelasgian moon-goddess Io continued to be the old name of the moon at the religious mysteries at Argos... No doubt Io, the later Hera, had at an earlier age, besides cow-horns, a cow-face.  Hera, with her old moon-name Io, had a celebrated temple on the site of Byzantium, which city was founded by her daughter Keroessa... (Archaeologia Aeliana, Society of Antiquaries, v.45, 1877).
