| INARUS.
A petty king of Libya, whom, together with the Athenians, the
Egyptians under Amyrtaius called to their aid against the Persians under
Artaxerxes-Mnemon, from whom they had revolted. At first the
Egyptians were successful, but eventually the Persians raised the siege of
Memphis, drove Amyrtaius to the marshes of the Delta, and impaled Inarus,
placing as Satraps, Thannyras on the Libyan throne, and Pausiris on that
of Egypt. The struggle lasted six years. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper,
1876).
