IHAB (إيهاب).
Unisex. Arabic. Said to mean "gift."
Perhaps from hibat
(هيات) "a gift." (An English and
Arabic Dictionary, Catafago, 1873). There is also ihab
(اهاب) "raw hide." (A Vocabulary, Persian, Arabic, and English,
Richardson, 1810).
696. (87.)
Ukbah-Bin-Haris said, "I married the daughter of Abu-Ihab;
and a woman came and said to me, 'I suckled you, and that woman you have
married.' I said, I do not know this; you never told me, nor did I
hear so.' Then I sent a person on to the family of Abu Ihab,
to ask them if this woman had suckled their daughter; and they said they
did not know that she had. Then I rode to Medinah, to His
Highness, and asked him the orders. He said, 'How can you marry
this woman, since it has been said that you were suckled by the same
woman, notwithstanding it is not established?' Then I separated
myself from her, and married her to another husband." (Mahomedan
Law Relating to Marriage, &c., Bahadur, 1895)
