Yehohanan,
= "whom Jehovah has given" (Gesenius), "Jehovah is
gracious" (Oxford bible). From Jehohanan, sometimes
contracted Johanan,
comes the New Testament John].
(1) A
Korahite Levite, who had the sixth course of the doorkeepers in David's
reign (1 Chron. xxvi. 3).
(2) The second in honour of Jehoshaphat's
captains. He had under him 280,000 men (2 Chron. xvii. 15).
(3) The father of a certain Ishmael. The
high priest Jehoiada took him, with others, into the conspiracy against
Athaliah (2 Chron. xxiii. 1).
(4) A priest of the house of Amariah. He
lived in the days of Joiakim, the immediate successor of Jeshua or
Joshua, who aided Zerubbabel after the return from captivity (Neh. xii.
13).
(5) A son of Bebai. He was induced by
Ezra to put away his foreign wife (Ezra x. 28).
(6) A priest who officiated at the dedication
by Nehemiah of the wall of Jerusalem (Neh. xii. 42). (The Sunday
