KAMBUZIA. An
Egyptian
form of Old Persian Kambujiya
(Latin Cambyses), meaning "the
Kambujien" or "Crown Prince Kambuja." (Encyclopaedia Brittanica, 9th ed.,
v.4, 1894)
The founder of
the Persian kingdom in Anshan seems to have been Chishpish, the Teïspes of
the Greeks, son of Hakhâmanish or Achaimenes. Teïspes must have
reigned during the last quarter of the seventh century. The
Babylonian annals tell us that Cyrus was the son of Kambuzia (Cambyses
I), son of Kurush (Cyrus I), son of Shishpish, all of whom are given the
title of "great king, king of Anshan."... (The Ancient
History of the
Near East, Hall, 1913)
