KAMES, a Theban monarch of the XVIIth dynasty, the son of Tiakken.  He carried on the war begun by his father against Apepi, the Hykshos king, and his son Aahmes terminated the struggle by expelling the Hykshos dynasty.  He was called Tsafento, "Sustainer of the World," a title which has been compared with the Zaphnath-Paaneah of Hebrew history.  His reign was a short one. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
