KAMIL. The
native Etruscan form of Hermes/Mercury, the Latin being Camillus
(q.v.),
meaning "attendant (for a temple)." Usage: Czech Republic,
Poland, Slovakia.
... Thesan seems to have been in
nature like the Greek Eos and the Roman Aurora. Turms—Hermes,
Mercury—was the god of boundaries and the messenger of the
underworld. The native name is thought to have been Camillus, or
Kamil. According to Servius, the Etruscan name of youthful
priestesses was camillæ, and the attendant minister of the Flamen
Dialis at the sacrifices was called Camillus... (Departed Gods,
Fradenburgh,
1891)
KAMIL. Arabic name,
derived from the vocabulary word kāmil, meaning "the perfect."
(A Grammar of the Arabic Language, Caspari-Wright, 1875).
Malik-ul-Kamil ascended the
throne of Misr after his father's death. On the decease of his
brother, Malik-ul-Muazzam, he brought the territories of Sham under his
jurisdiction. He conferred the sovereignty of the territory of Yaman
upon his son, who was named Malik Mas'ud, and also brought Hijaz under
his sway. (Tabakat-i-Nasiri: A General History of the Muhammadan
