Khalid was appointed governor of Arabian and Persian Irak by Hisham Ibn Abd al-Malik the Omaiyide; before that, in the year 89 (A.D. 707-8), he was governor of Mekka.  His mother was a Christian, and his grandfather Yazid was one of the companions of Muhammad...
