| KHNUM-HOTEP. Khnumhotep.
"Peace
of Khnum." The governor of Menat Khufu, in Upper Egypt.
He was the son of a prince-governor named Nehara and of the princess Bakat.
The mines at the Wady Megara were under his care, and a tribe of Syrian
people called the Aahmu visited Egypt during a famine in his time.
These were long supposed to have been the Israelites under Jacob.
Khnum-hotep was buried in a sumptuous tomb at Beni Hassan, where his life
and riches are recorded.
