KILIAN. Irish.
From Latin Cæcilianus
(q.v.), meaning "blind." Usage:
America, Czech
Republic (Kilián), England, Germany (Kílian), Ireland.
... Cæcilianus is supposed to be the origin of Kilian, one of the
many Keltic missionaries who spread the light of the Gospel on the
Continent, in the seventh century. St. Kilian is said to have been
of Irish birth. He preached in Germany, and was martyred at
Wurtzburg; and his name has never quite ceased to be used in the adjacent
lands. (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).
