LLAMREI. Arthurian. In the Mabinogion, king Arthur's favorite mare
is called Llamrei, meaning "the curveter." (Character
Sketches of Romance, Fiction and the Drama, Brewer, v.7, 1902).
Also spelled Lamri.
This Mare of
Arthur's was very celebrated. Her name implies bounding or
curvetting. Taliesin speaks of her in his Cân y Meirch, as "Llamrei
full of vigour."—Myv. Arch. I. p. 44. (The Mabinogion,
Guest, 1906)
