MAHLAH (מַחְלָה).
Biblical. Hebrew = "disease." Also spelled Mahalah.
(1) The
eldest daughter of Zelophehad (Numb. xxvi. 33; xxvii. 1). She with
her sisters successfully petitioned Moses to be permitted to obtain land
as if they had been of the other sex (xxvii. 1-11), Joshua afterwards
carrying out the decision come to by his predecessor. The
inheritance of the daughters was in the half tribe of Manasseh east of
the Jordan (Josh. xvii. 3-6). Only of the first form.
