MABON.
Welsh Arthurian. From the name of the Gaulish god Maponus
(q.v.), meaning "the great youth." Mabon ab Modron
(Mabon son of Modron), is a character in the Mabinogi Kilhwch
and Olwen.
So Kay and
Gwrhyr went upon his shoulders, and they proceeded till they came to the
wall of the prison, and they heard a great wailing and lamenting from
the dungeon.
Said Gwrhyr, "Who is it that laments in this
house of stone?"
And the voice replied, "Alas, it is Mabon, the
son of Modron, who is here imprisoned!"
Then they returned and told Arthur, who, summoning
his warriors, attacked the castle. (Celtic Fairy Tales, Jacobs,
1892)
