Etymology of the name MARIANUS.
Meaning of the baby name MARIANUS.

MARIANUS.  Latin name meaning "marine; of the sea," from mare (sea). (Remaines Concerning Britaine, Camden, 1637).  A surname given to Jupiter, from a temple built to his honour by Marius.  It was in this temple that the Roman senate assembled to recall Cicero, a circumstance communicated to him in a dream. (Bibliotheca Classica, Lemprière, 1840).

MARIANUS.  Irish.  For Gaelic Maelbrigde ("servant of Brigid"), and, also, Muiredhach ("sea protector").

... Gelasius represents several compounds of Gilla, a Gillamacliag, Gilladomhnaill; so also Marianus represents Maelbrigde, as in the case of Marianus, the Chronist; Muiredhach, as in the case of the present Marianus; and Maelmuire, as in the case of Marian Gorman, the Martyrologist. (Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy, v.7, 1862).
