MELEAGROS (Μελέαγρος).  In Greek legend, a celebrated hero, son of Œneus of Calydon and Althæa; one of the Argonauts and slayer of the Calydonian boar. (The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia, Whitney, 1906).  The name may mean "particoloured," as a guinea-fowl, and may signify "a Pict."  See Maclagan's note under Meleager.
