| MENTU-HOTEP. "Peace
of Mentu." Mentu-hotep I., the second king of the XIth
dynasty of Egypt. He succeeded Antef I. He was the Mandonophis
of the Greeks. Mentu-hotep II., the fourth king of the XIth
dynasty. He succeeded Antef-Aa II., and is said to have conquered
thirteen nations. He dwelt chiefly at Coptos, where he built a
temple to Ammon and Khnum. Mentu-hotep III., the sixth king
of the XIth Egyptian dynasty. He appears to have been the first king
to whom while living the title of "His Holiness" was
applied. He reigned forty-three years. Mentu-hotep, the
father of Sebekhotep II. of the XIIIth dynasty, but he was not himself a
king of Egypt. Mentu-hotep, the son of Ankh-karo-amat, the
daughter of Takelot II. of the XXIInd dynasty. Mentu-hotep, a
grandson of King Sebekhotep II. of the XIIIth dynasty. Mentu-hotep,
an Egyptian officer of the XIIth dynasty, the son of Mentuhotep, a royal
officer, and his wife Ai. He was the General in Chief of the royal
army, and as such accompanied the king in all his expeditions. He
was also called a "Royal Parent," and a prophet of Ma. Mentu-hotep,
an Egyptian, the son of Iri-sen-aker and his wife Hapu, by whom he was
named after the name of the reigning sovereign of the XIth dynasty.
