Meaning of the baby name NADEZHDA.

NADEZHDA (Надежда).  Slavic name meaning "hope."  Usage:  Bulgaria, Russia, Serbia.  Also see Nada, Nadejda, Naděžda, and Nadezna.

... it is appropriate to recall the life and doings of a comparatively early champion in that splendid struggle of Russian women for their fair share of usefulness in the social life of the nation, and their right to enlightenment.  We mean Nadezhda Vassilyevna Stassova.
On the 12/24 June, 1822, the then Court Architect, Vassiliy (Basil) Stassov made in his prayer book, which served him as a family Bible, the following entry:  "On this date, at one o'clock p.m., a daughter, Nadezhda (Hope), was born to Vassiliy Stassov in Tsarskoye Selo, in the wing of the palace; she was baptised in the large Court church, just finished after its destruction by fire.  His Imperial Majesty the Lord and Emperor Alexander I. was sponsor." (Free Russia, Soc. of Friends, v.12, 1901)
