| NABU-ZIR-NAPIS-TI-ESIR. A
son of Merodach-Baladan, king of Babylon. On the death of
Sennacherib he proclaimed himself king, and went to attack the city of Ur,
which was held by a prince named Ningal-idina. Him he defeated, and
added his principality to his own. As soon, however, as Esarhaddon
ascended the throne of Assyria, he sent an army under some trusted
generals against Babylon, and Nabu-zir-napis-ti-esir, with his brother
Nahid-maruduk, fled for shelter to the king of Edom, Ummanaldas, who not
only refused him an asylum, but put him to death. Nahid-maruduk
escaped, and was pardoned by Esarhaddon.
