name, derived from the vocabulary word nājī, meaning "escaping."

and its feminine, Najiyah,
are rendered "a deliverer, a saviour," in Lady Burton's
Edition of her Husband's Arabian Nights, 1886. Shaikh Naji ibn-Muhsin, of the tribe Al Tu'aiman.
