NEBO. Biblical.
Hebrew Nebho (נְבוֹ),
from Aramaic = "Mercury," the planet. Babylonian =
"interpreter, foreteller," i.e. "a prophet."
Russia has Nebo. The Bengali form is Nebho, all of
which
Muller renders "sky, heaven." (Chips From
a German Workshop, Müller, 1876)
Cooper

1876).
NEBO:
interpreter, foreteller, con. Naib, Nebi: a prophet = Weird: who speaks
the word. NEBO was the Chaldean Mercury, by whose passage through
the sky seasons were forecasted. (Personal and Family Names,
Long, 1883).
Nebo is
next in importance to Zirat-banit among the lesser gods of the
Assyrians. He is the god of learning, and his consort is Tasmituv.
The libraries in Nineveh and other cities were all dedicated to this
god, and the epithets applied to him indicate that he was the Assyrian
Hermes. He is called "the wise god," "the lord of
illustrious birth," "the enlarger of the mind," "the
writer of inscriptions." (Encyclopedia Britannica, Chambers, v.1, 1901)
NEBO "Heb. Nebho

Babylonian = "the prophet" (George Smith)].
The Babylonian "god" of
knowledge and literature. His consort was called Tasmit, or the
Hearer. The special seat of his worship was at Borsippa, near
Babylon (George Smith, Chaldean Genesis, 52). In Isaiah's time
images of Nebo were used as objects of worship (Isa. xlvi. 1). (The Sunday School
Teacher's Bible Manual, Hunter, 1894)
