NUSKU. Assyrian-Babylonian
fire-god. He came to be identified with Nabu
(q.v.) and amalgamated with Gibil
(q.v.).
Nusku was a wise god, the
messenger of the gods, and the bearer of the brilliant sceptre. He
is spoken of as sprung from Ea (q.v.), and as the first-born of
Bel
(q.v.). (An Encyclopedia of Religions, Canney, 1921)
... Yet by the Assyrians, in one and the same sentence, he is called: "The one begotten by Anu,"
the "firstborn of En-lil,"
the "sprout of the ocean," the "creature of the lord of
heaven and earth." [see Jensen, Kosmologie, p. 273.]... (Bel,
the Christ of Ancient Times, Radau, 1903)
