OTAKAR. Bohemian.
The same as Otokar (q.v.),
another name for Odoacer
(Audvakr,
"treasure watcher"), but, according to Yonge, equal to Germanic Ortgar
(q.v.), Anglo-Saxon Eadgar
(q.v.), meaning "rich spear," from Teutonic od (O.N. audr,
A.S. ead, wealth), and gar (spear). See Yonge's note
under Ottokar.
Otakar Kraus (d. 1980), was a Czech operatic baritone and teacher.
Otakar Kubin (d. 1969), was a renowned Czech painter and sculptor. (Wiki)
... the Otakar of the
Hildebrandlied, the oldest fragment, palaeographically speaking, of the
Dietrich saga, or indeed of any portion of Teutonic hero-legend, is
obviously the Odoacer of history, and the Witig of the saga seems to
answer the historical Witigis... (Papers and Transactions: the
International Folk-lore Congress, Jacobs-Nutt, 1892).
