PHOIBE (Φοίβη).  The feminine form of Greek Phoibos (q.v.), meaning "the light of life" or "pure radiance."  Latin Phoebe.  Phoibe (in Hesiod) was mother of Leto by Κοῖος (who is both Ceus and Cœus in the Latin), son of Ouranos and Ge. (The Night of the Gods, O'Neill, v.1, 1893).
