PASCOA. Spanish
name, apparently from Latin Pascha (the Passover), for children
born at the season of Pasche, hence "Easter child." The
English have Pascoe, and in
Cornwall, Pasco.
The Greek
translators represented Hebrew Pesach by Πάσχα.
It is Pascha likewise in Latin; whence all modern languages have at least
taken some of their terms for the great feast of the Resurrection that
finally crowned and explained the Jewish Passover. (History of Christian Names,
Yonge, 1884)
