PERO (Πηρω).  f.  Greek name meaning "invalid," from πηρία (invalidity). 

    Pero, a daughter of Neleus, king of Pylos, by Chloris, the daughter of Amphion.  Iphiclus had seized on the oxen of Tyro, the mother of Neleus.  Pero was promised in marriage to the person who should recover these oxen from Iphiclus.  Melampus undertook the task; but, being vanquished, was thrown into prison.
