| QUIPUHA. Ancient
Chamorro
name, meaning "striving to capsize." When the Spanish
landed off the shores of Guam in 1668, it was Chief Kepuha who was the
high-ranking male. He allowed himself to be baptized by San Vitores as
Juan Quipuha, and he granted lands for the first Catholic Church in Guam.
