RABAB (رباب).
From the Persian (rabāb),
Arabic (rubáb),
the name of "a stringed musical instrument."
Rudra Víná.—Now known
as "Rabáb" among Muhammadan musicians of Persia and
Afghanistan, and "Rubáb" among those of Arabia. It is mounted
with six strings made of cat-gut, and is said to be the prototype of the
mandoline, Spanish guitar, and other instruments of a similar
construction. The instrument has no frets arranged over the
