RAQIYAH (رقيّة). Arabic
name, derived from the vocabulary word rukyat, meaning "enchantment,
fascination, magic." It is the name of a talismanic amulet, or
written charm against sorcery. (An English and Arabic Dictionary,
Catafago, 1873). Ruqayya and Ruqayyah
are diminutive forms.
Raqiyah Sultán Bégum, the
daughter of Mirzá Hindál, had not until now visited her father's tomb.
