RAB-SHAKEH.  Biblical.  Hebrew form of Assyrian Rabsak, meaning "chief of the princes."

RAB-SHAKEH.  A chief officer in the Assyrian army.  See Assyrian Rab-saki. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).

RAB-SHAKEH  [ Rabhshaqeh, from Assyrian Rabsak = "chief of the princes"].
    Not the name, but the office or title of a man who represented Sennacherib at the siege of Jerusalem, and was sent to urge the surrender of the city.  He was the Assyrian vizier, or prime-minister (2 Kings, xviii. 17-xix. 34; Isa xxxvi. 2-xxxvii. 35).  What his individual name was is unknown. (The Sunday School Teacher's Bible Manual, Hunter, 1894).
