same as Anglo-Saxon Randolf (q.v.),
a form of old German Randwulf
(q.v.), meaning "shield wolf."
Also see Randolph. (A Compendious Anglo-Saxon and
English Dictionary,
Bosworth,
1901).
RANDULF,
called Le Meschin, Earl of Chester (d. 1129?), was the son and heir of
Randulf, called "de Brichessart" (from Briquessart, his family

Hugh "of Avranches," earl of Chester. He is chiefly
