SALOME (Σαλώμη).
Greek name meaning "peaceful." The Swiss use this name for married
women, but, for single women, it is given in the form Salomeli.
(History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884). Usage: America, England, France (Salomé),
Germany, Switzerland.
Salome Jens, an American actress. Salome Clausen,
a Swiss pop music artist. (Wiki)
SALOME. [Greek, probably from Shalom. As an adjective =
"whole," "perfect"; as a noun = "integrity,"
"peace."]
The wife of Zebedee, and the mother of James and John
(cf. Matt. xxvii. 56
with Mark xv. 40 and xvi. 1). She made an unreasonable and
unsuccessful request that her two sons should sit the one on the right and
the other on the left hand of Jesus when He came into His kingdom (Matt.
xx. 20). She was one of the Christian women who from a distance saw
the crucifixion (Matt. xxvii. 56; Mark xv. 40), and who went to the
sepulchre of our Lord on the resurrection morning with sweet spices to
anoint His body (Mark xvi. 1). (The Sunday School Teacher's Bible
Manual, Hunter, 1894)
