SARPANITUM.
A Babylonian "offspring-producing" goddess.
... The goddess Sarpanitum
appears after the time of Hammurabi as the consort of Marduk
(q.v.). She was popularly regarded as the
"offspring-producing" goddess, and seems to have been
worshipped as one who possessed secret knowledge and protected the
foetus. Sarpanitum was amalgamated with a water goddess
Eurua, who also appears as the consort of Marduk. Her place of
worship in E-Sagila was called "the gate of widespread splendour."
Her festival was on the 25th day of the third month, Siwan. (An
Encyclopedia of Religions, Canney, 1921)
