Origin of the name SOSANDRA.
Etymology of the name SOSANDRA.
Meaning of the baby name SOSANDRA.

SOSANDRA.  A Latin name meaning "savior of man."

This statue was set up at the entrance to the Acropolis of Athens.  Whether it was identical with a statue of Aphrodite by Calamis seen near the same spot by Pausanias has been disputed, but this seems by far the most probable view.  But it does not at all follow that Pausanias is right when he called the figure Aphrodite; he may have judged quite hastily.  He says it was a dedication by the Athenian Callias, who was the husband of Elpinice.
