SALEH (صلاح).  Arabic.  The same as Salah (q.v.), meaning "mission."  Salih (صالح), "apostle," is also sometimes spelled this way.

... SALAH, or Saleh, son of Arphaxad, born in the thirty-fifth year of his father, A.M. 1693.  He begat Eber at thirty years old, and died aged 433 years, A.M. 2126. Gen. xi. 12, &c. (Dictionary of the Holy Bible, Calmet, 1832)

SALEH.  In Arabic history a prophet who entreated the Thamudites to renounce idolatry, and as a sign of his miraculous mission made a camel with its colt to come out of the solid rock.  The Thamudites continuing incredulous, to please them a man named Codar el Ahmar slew the sacred beast, whereupon Saleh announced the destruction of the tribe, which took place three days afterwards, when a thunderbolt fell from heaven and consumed them all. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
