SARDANAPALOS.  Greek form of Babylonian Nabopalassar (q.v.), meaning "the heart protector," from sardana "the heart" and pala "the protector."  This was the name of a Babylonian king.  It is Romanized Sardanapalus.  He was also known by the Assyrian name Assurbanipal (q.v.).
