SHEDAD (شدّاد).  "Strong."  In Arabian history the son of the patriarch Ad, and successor to his brother Shedid (q.v.).  He conquered all Arabia and Irak, and built a splendid palace or paradise which he called Irem, but he was miraculously slain on account of his impiety.  He and all his family were giants. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876)
