SPIRIDON (Σπυρίδων).  Greek.  A diminutive form of Spiro (q.v.), Latin spiritus, meaning "breath of the gods."  Some authors make it an occupational name for a "basket maker."  See Yonge's note below, and Long's note under Spiridion.  Usage: Croatia, Greece, Serbia.
    Spiridon Belokas, a Greek athlete.  Spiridon Gopčević (d. 1928), was a Serbian astronomer and historian. (Wiki)
