SUINTILA.
A Gothic name derived from the word swinths, meaning
"strong." (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884). Rackus
provides the Lithuanian form Svinthila
(q.v.), which he renders "divine peace."
... We are not told where, or
of what distemper, he died; but, it seems, he was no sooner dead, than
the eyes of the Visigoths were turned upon prince Suintila; a
circumstance which is not at all wonderful, if he really was, what
Mariana and other historians affirm him to be, the son of Reccared the
