("canary") is apparently related to Turkish Teghin ("yellow"),
which was in ancient times the title of the rulers of the Turks;—e.g.
Alpteghin, Sebegteghin of the Ghaznevid dynasty (10th century). (Notices

Bretschneider, 1876).
