THII. Egyptian.
Probably a feminine form of Thi
(q.v.), meaning "giving." Also spelled Tii
(q.v.).
... In a fine colossal head of
a queen crowned with the attributes of Maut, which was found some few
years ago in a small chamber close behind the great obelisks of
Hatshepsu, in the Temple of Amen at Karnak, it seems, however, probable
that we behold a portrait of the woman-king. This head, for some
reason known only to himself, struck Mariette as being possibly the
portrait of Queen Thii, the wife of Amenhotep III; and he placed
it in the Museum of Boulak under that title. The face, however, in
no wise resembles the extant portrait of Thii; whereas, if
regarded in profile, it certainly does resemble the outline of the
profile portrait of Hatshepsu... (Egypt of the Past, Wilson,
1893).
