THRESSA (Θρήσσα).  A name mentioned by Horace which, like Virgil's Threissa (q.v.), is supposed to be a feminine form of Θρήξ, Ionic for Θράξ, meaning "a Thracian."  It may be the true origin of Theresa. (Praenomina, Charnock, 1882).
