TÁMHAS. An
early Scottish form of Thomas
(q.v.), meaning "a twin."
Probably cognate with Tomaltach
(q.v.), which is rendered differently by O'Hart, but derives from the same
Gaelic word tomhas ("a measure"). Cf. African Tamika,
which also lit. means a measure.
